Job descriptions
Swim teams can't function without volunteers. During dual meets, we need 25-40 volunteers each week. The team expectation is that if your child is swimming in a meet, at least one parent will volunteer during the meet.
Only a few jobs require special training. If you have any experience with competitive swimming, please consider becoming a Stroke & Turn Judge. New families often start as Timers. For returning families, we hope you'll try some new jobs this year.
Meet Tear Down
HOME MEETS ONLY!
We need everyone to help us end our home meets on a high note. Tasks include emptying and storing diving blocks, taking down & storing lane signs, putting deck chairs back in place, picking up trash, putting equipment away, etc.
Please plan to have someone from your family help us with these tasks while others load up the car so that we can all go home as early as possible.
Stroke & Turn Judge
2 per shift; both Home & Away Meets.
A stroke & turn judge is at each corner of the pool watching the swimmers during the races to ensure they are doing the stroke properly. Ensures that swimmers strokes are legal and in compliance with 'SSL Technical Rules for Swim Strokes & Relays'. Training is required before signing up for this job, includes watching and discussing SSL 'Stroke 7 Turn Judge' video. Must stand for the entire shift.
Stroke & Turn Judge - Head
1 per shift; HOME MEETS ONLY!
The 1st shift Head S/T Judge does orientation for all S/T judges at the beginning of home meets. They handout clipboards with DQ slips & pencils during the orientation.
The 2nd shift Head S/T Judge collects clipboards and returns them to the computer room.
During both shifts, Head S/T Judges will fill in for any judge who needs to step away from the pool. They walk around to collect all DQ slips and confirm slips are correctly filled out and signed before turning them into the Balloter. They will make the final ruling in coordination with the OTF SSL Rep if there is a dispute about a DQ. Requires training & previous experience as a S/T Judge.
