Swim Meet 101
Things to Bring...
- Team swimsuit (You think we're joking? They have been left at home)
- Goggles, always good to have spare in your bag
- Caps
- Sharpies
- Several towels per swimmer
- Activities for a swimmer to do when they are not swimming... games, cards, coloring activities, books, etc. Bring electronics at your own risk, remember you are at a pool with concrete and water all around.
Things to Do...
- Check your swimmer in with the coach
- Write swimmers events on their arm or leg
- Check in with volunteer coordinator and confirm your assignment
- Fill out a name tag with your name, OTF, and assignment on the tag
- Set up your space for the evening
- Listen to the events they are calling out
Snack Suggestions
- LOTS of water and sports drinks to keep everyone hydrated
- Fresh fruit and veggies
- Protein bars
- Concessions are sold at every meet, small bills are appreciated. Every team depends on concessions to help keep swim team costs low.
Parking
- Parking at all swim meets is CraZy, there is never enough spots close to the pool. Be prepared to drop off swimmer and gear then park a block or more away from the pool.
- At home meets, OTF residents are asked to walk if possible.
- Spaces will be marked off for visiting coaches, please DON'T park in reserved or handicap spaces.
- Park on one side of the street, follow the pattern others have started
- Please don't block driveways or access to fire hydrants
Things NOT TO DO
- SSL prohibits alcohol in any form or container at ALL meets. You may be asked to leave the meet if you are found in possession of alcohol at a meet.
- Meet volunteers may not consume alcohol prior to working their assigned shift
- SSL has a Zero Tolerance. No Violence Rule: Violence of any type, verbal or physical, hostile or aggressive will not be tolerated, nor will any behavior found to be contradictory to the SSL mission. Persons involved in such behavior will be ejected immediately. If they will not leave voluntarily, authorities will be called. In addition, any child involved may be removed from the meet and officially DQ'd as well.
Remember, this is a non-competitive league. Bring a good attitude, cheer for all swimmers and have fun!!
